The first look at 13-year-old Nisha would make it evident that she is a very organised and tidy student who loves to be presentable all the time. Whether she is at home or at school, Nisha never compromises on her appearance. She plaits her hair by herself and maintains her uniform neatly. She's also very organised when it comes to studies. She has a timetable in which she has allotted a specific study time for every subject.
Her father works as a watchman at an industrial area somewhere close to Hesarghatta. Her mother works as a housekeeper at a garment factory. They both leave home at 6 a.m. and return after sundown. Nisha has three younger sisters and one younger brother. At 13, Nisha is completely aware of the fact that being the eldest child, she needs to take responsibility of her siblings and make sure that they go to school every day, eat the Akshaya Patra mid-day meal and study well. Since it comes free, we thank them every day for this facility and it helps us greatly to stay healthy.
Nisha is a gifted student and another astonishing fact about her is her career choice. This young lady wants to work with the government and improve facilities at government schools in our country. The reason behind this vocational choice is even more touching. With the maturity of a grown-up adult, she says, "I know my parents are poor and cannot afford engineering or medical fees. Hence, I want to get into Civil Services since those entrance exams are free of cost for girls. I want to improvise and throw some light on English language in [government] schools."
It is interesting to know why she is this dedicated at such a young age. Explaining this she says, "Government provides us with so many facilities at school like free books and brilliant teachers. We should not let all that go waste; we should study well and return our gratitude to the government by becoming responsible citizens." This is the kind of influence education has on a girl child.
