'Raksha Bandhan' ('raksha' meaning protection and 'bandhan' meaning bond) is one of India's most beloved festivals, celebrating one of the strongest relationships of childhood: the bond that exists between brother and sister. A 'rakhi', symbolizing the love and affection between siblings, is tied by a sister to her brother on the occasion. Today, 'rakhi' can also be tied by a sister figure to someone she looks to as a brother.

Akshaya Patra celebrated Raksha Bandhan this year with the children of Govt. Higher Primary School in Rajajinagar as well as renowned Kannada actor Diganth, RED FM's RJ Pallavi and Bharatashrabha Dasa, one of the missionaries of Akshaya Patra's cause. The day began with a prayer and a welcoming speech by the Principal and was proceeded by Mr. Diganth interacting with the children.

"Eat well and study hard to achieve a great future," said Mr. Diganth on addressing the children. He also shared with them stories of his own high school days in Shimoga. RJ Pallavi brought in a lot of enthusiasm to the event, engaging the children in many fun activities, while Mr. Das added a spiritual touch, highlighting the importance of Raksha Bandhan. The children then tied Rakhi to Mr. Diganth, while Ms. Pallavi reciprocated the same to the boys of the school.

The day ended with happy smiles, wholesome food and a delicious sweet for dessert.
